Church street in the snow

Extreme weather conditions greets our residents

By Patricia Fallon

January 2010 was the coldest January for 23 years, as most of us could guess, with an average temperature of only 0.6C, some 2.8C cooler than the 1971-2000 average.

With freezing weather and flurries of snow most people remained indoors and turned up their heating to avoid the intense cold.

Church Street and its surroundings streets did not escape that cold freeze as Stall holders and street traders attempted the icy conditions to continue to do business.

We were able to get some pictures of a neighbourhood in white and the stalls who managed to brave it!
